Abdul Qayoom Rakhshani | Award-Winning Researcher, Educator, and Healthcare

In the heart of Shahpur Chakar, a small town in District Sanghar, Sindh, where educational and healthcare facilities are often limited, one young man’s determination and vision changed what seemed impossible into a story of success.

Abdul Qayoom Rakhshani, born and raised in this rural setting, defied challenges that many in his community faced — limited access to quality education, scarce research opportunities, and minimal exposure to scientific resources. Yet, through persistence, resilience, and a deep sense of purpose, he emerged as a respected healthcare researcher, educator, and social advocate, earning a place in the Pakistan Book of Records (2025) for his groundbreaking work in physiology.

Academic Excellence and Research Recognition

Abdul Qayoom’s academic journey began at the University of Sindh, where he completed both his BS and MPhil in Physiology. His MPhil research project stood out not only for its scientific rigor but also for its social relevance — focusing on “Hepatitis Risk Factors in Rural Children.”

This was not a typical laboratory study; it was an exploration into the real-life struggles of rural populations, highlighting the urgent healthcare needs in remote areas. His findings revealed critical gaps in vaccination coverage, hygiene awareness, and preventive healthcare access among children — issues that directly contribute to the spread of hepatitis in underserved communities.

In recognition of this impactful contribution, his research was officially honored by the Pakistan Book of Records (2025) as the first study in the male category to achieve such distinction in this domain. This milestone marked not just a personal victory, but a symbol of progress for rural Pakistani researchers working to improve public health outcomes.

Bridging Science and Service – Professional Journey

Currently, Abdul Qayoom serves as Assistant Manager at MMI Hospital Karachi, one of the city’s well-known medical institutions. His role combines administrative leadership and clinical expertise, allowing him to balance management responsibilities with hands-on involvement in healthcare delivery.

Alongside this, he works as an MRI Technologist associated with DUHS (Dow University of Health Sciences), specializing in neuroimaging and diagnostic radiology. His clinical proficiency supports early detection and analysis of neurological and systemic conditions — an area that is increasingly critical in Pakistan’s evolving medical landscape.

With a blend of academic knowledge and field experience, he continues to bridge the gap between medical research and real-world healthcare application.

Mentorship and Teaching – Shaping the Next Generation

Beyond his professional career, Abdul Qayoom is deeply committed to education and mentorship. With over three years of teaching experience in Anatomy and Physiology, he has taught and guided medical and allied health students, helping them grasp complex scientific concepts with clarity and practical insight.

His teaching philosophy revolves around accessibility and inspiration — making students understand that science is not just a subject, but a pathway to serving humanity. His classrooms are often filled with curiosity and critical thinking, qualities he believes are essential for the healthcare professionals of tomorrow.

Through mentorship, he has nurtured young learners to pursue medical research, encouraging them to take bold steps toward innovation and community impact — much like he did during his own academic journey.

Social Activism and Community Health Awareness

For Abdul Qayoom, healthcare is not confined to hospital walls or classrooms. It extends to villages, schools, and communities where awareness can save lives. As a social activist, he has organized multiple public health awareness campaigns addressing hygiene, waterborne diseases, and environmental protection.

One of his notable initiatives, “Clean Water, Healthy Life,” focused on educating rural communities in Sindh about the dangers of contaminated water and the importance of filtration and sanitation. The campaign not only raised awareness but also helped local residents adopt safe drinking practices, reducing disease spread and improving daily health outcomes.

His commitment to environmental and social betterment continues through ongoing projects promoting clean living, tree plantation, and climate change education, proving that sustainable health begins with environmental care.

A Vision for Rural Healthcare and Education

Despite his urban professional success, Abdul Qayoom’s heart remains connected to his roots in rural Sindh. His long-term vision is to establish integrated healthcare and educational centers dedicated to remote communities, where diagnostics, health education, and outreach programs work together to uplift public health standards.

He believes that the future of Pakistan’s development depends on how effectively the country can bridge the rural-urban divide in education and healthcare. His vision is not just to treat illnesses but to empower communities through knowledge, prevention, and accessibility.

“True progress,” he often says, “comes when a child in a remote village has the same right to education and healthcare as anyone in a city.”
